California Medical Instrumentation Association

The California Medical Instrumentation Association (CMIA) is dedicated to the promotion, education and information exchange of the state’s clinical biomedical engineering community.

The previous website was difficult to update and thus the various Chapters were not using the website.

This project grew considerably after it was started, but initial client requirements included; member subscriptions and management, individual Chapter pages, event management
and banner advertising & management. And most importantly the site had to be easily expanded with new functionality.

The California Medical Instrumentation Association (CMIA) is dedicated to the promotion, education and information exchange of the state’s clinical biomedical engineering community.

With nine Chapters and sixty Sponsors, it was really important to organize information in a way that made content accessible. Time was spent making the content easy to find and organized. Colour was used to visually separate the Chapters. Preset sponsor advertising layouts allow the sponsors to easily advertise while keeping the site cohesive.

This website required the input of many stakeholders on functionality to automate the various different tasks that were being done by volunteers.   Annual membership renewals go out automatically. Sponsors can advertise, post jobs, sponsor events, suggest presentation topics and book tradeshow booths all through the website. A group discussion area was set up so volunteers could see all the discussions without a long email tread and were not answering questions that someone had already responded to. CMIA’s website is a development-heavy site with on-line payments and access based on membership type.
